Even though I’m long out the loan game, it seems every time loans come up in Australia they gotta mention me somehow, some way!
In a recent article in The Australian they dragged my name in over a crackdown on the payday loans lender Nimble. I ain’t got a clue who runs this firm; I’m too busy pimpin’ these days to care – but here’s what they had to say about me.
Apparently I’m still top dog….
Nimble, which is backed by iSelect’s “shoot the lights out” specialists Damian Waller and Les Webb, together with former Wotif CFO Sam Friend, is Margin Call’s second favourite Gold Coast-based moneylender.
Top dog on the glitter strip is of course Tim “Sharky” Ward, a musclebound loan shark who these days spends his days in Thailand sin pit Pattaya, where he is a self-proclaimed pimp.
Others are also critical of Nimble’s ads — in January, the company stopped airing an ad featuring a man in a shower who can’t pay his gas bill after the Consumer Action Law Centre arced up. However, it’s still available on YouTube, so apparently Nimble does not completely disown it.
Or, in the words tattooed around Sharky Ward’s tree-trunk neck: “no retreat, no remorse”.
CALC CEO Gerard Brody said his organisation also found Nimble’s phone bill ad “pretty irresponsible” because the telco industry has “done the right thing” by putting in place schemes to help people in hardship.
“It really sends the wrong message to consumers about what their rights are,” Brody said. “We’ve raised these concerns about the telco ad, and the gas ad still being available on YouTube, and they haven’t done anything about it.”
Seems like they only mentioned my name to get pageviews, but if you wanna read the full article go here.
